August 9th - Pacific Rim National Park
The Beach at Pacific Rim

A short walk from our campsite was the beautiful beach at Pacific Rim. The surf was so alive and there are some good photos of octopus hanging out on the rocks. If it seems like there are 20 copies of the same photo it is because I was trying to use the time-sequence mode on the digital camera.

Hiking in Pacific Rim National Park

All through the park are interpretive trails that discuss the unique flora and fauna of the park. The photos here cover 2 major trails, one through the heart of the rain forest and the other through a sitka spruce grove. The latter trail was very interesting as it shows how on this coast the beach is accreting, instead of eroding. Many hectares of new beach are created each year by the hearty sitka spruce as it reclaims the land from the sea. Also included are a few pictures of a sunset on the beach at Pacific Rim.
