Road to Kilkenny

With a good night's sleep and a "full Irish" in our bellies we headed west over the Wicklow Mountains on the way to Kilkenny. We found out the night before that Glendalough was closed due to the foot and mouth crisis so we decided to come back this way at the end of our trip when the park would be open.

Our first day without being hopelessly lost or hitting anything was quite nice. We saw a dolmen, ancient pagan portal tomb, and some local livestock. Due to FDM this was the closest we every got to a cow. As well we went near the Cullen ancestral home that is now flooded to make a huge resevoir for Dublin.

Eventually we made it to Kilkenny learning the valuable lesson that although it is only 100km on a map, that somehow translates into 4 hours of driving in this country. Anways, all we had time to do was take in Kilkenny Castle before eveything was closed. Kilkenny is a really nice town and we were told that its pub scene is popular with young Dubliners. This picture of Lisa is taken on one of the "strips".
